Definition of a Motorcycle
According to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, a motorcycle is defined as: "Any motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for the use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, but excluding a tractor or a moped." [FS 316.003 (22)]
This means that, in the State of Florida, mopeds and motor scooters are also defined as motorcycles.
If you have a regular Class E license, according to the Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, you are able to drive "any non-commercial motor vehicle with Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) less than 26,001 pounds, including passenger cars, 15 passenger vans including the driver, trucks or recreational vehicles and two or three wheel motor vehicles 50 cc or less, such as mopeds or small scooters."
To operate a motorcycle or motor scooter with a motor over 50cc, you must obtain a Florida Motorcycle Endorsement.
